Auntie Em

My apologies up front for another marathon blog post, but here are the photos from a fun-filled week with Emily when she came to visit us during her spring break.

Minneapolis sculpture garden (with flowers!).

A Thai food extravaganza!

Nick and Emily made the pad thai,

and the basil chicken.

I made the rice.

Let's eat!

Como Zoo and Conservatory.

Dude. In all four years we've been going to the zoo I've never seen Chloe, the sloth, awake. See it now with your own eyes.

Children's museum. Emily and Keyton make a music video.

Farewell photo opps. Thanks for a fun week Emily!

Mexico Gifts

I brought Keyton and Nick back the swine flu Bimbo Chivas jerseys. (Bimbo is a brand of bread that Nick as a 19 year old missionary thought was particularly funny).

my trip, in more detail than you asked for

I got bumped on a flight last summer and had a free ticket to use, so I left the kids with Nick and headed off to Mexico to visit my sister Natalie who is finishing her last semester of law school at a university in Mexico City (the UNAM).

I had an overnight layover in Seattle both ways so I got to hang out with my other sister Katie who is going to school there. It snowed the day before I left Minnesota, so I DIED when I saw the flowers blooming in Seattle.

Nick, who went on his mission to Puebla Mexico, was very interested in what food I was going to get to eat. So on his behalf I kept careful track. Carne asada--so yummy!

Natalie lives in Coyoacan, an absolutely darling part of the city full of restaurants with places to eat outside.

Her apartment is cool.

There is a square that hosts a weekend market out her window.

She is neighors and close personal friends with Dr. Simi, Mexico's biggest star.

There is a cathedral nearby.

With a neat door.

There is even a beautiful cultural center where people take dance lessons and paint.

Natalie showed me all around the city. We saw the Diego Rivera murals,

The nearby cactus garden,

And the zocalo.

Natalie's friends from school drove us to Tasco, the cutest town you've ever seen about two hours south of the city.

There were so many cute churches, which were all done up for the Easter celebration.

The food was delicioso: coconut and lime ice cream,

And pozole.

However, something was amiss and I ended up dining on this for the next few days.

Nat's neighborhood is also home of the Frida Kahlo museum.

We did our best Frida imitations.

We went to the contemporary art museum at the UNAM.

A few hours north of the city were the pyramids at Teotihuacan. They were awesome.

Natalie ordered us up some quesadillas from Gloria.

And then I had to go home. It was such a fun trip and a renewing vacation, I've decided to plan another one like it quarterly.
