Despite spending the entire day before on his feet packing our Uhaul (a great pre-race activity), and a pesky knee injury a few weeks prior, Nick is feeling as optimistic as one can at 5:45am and looking fast might I add.
It should come as no surprise to you to hear it rained the entire race. Not typical Portland drizzle, but full on rain. Lovely. I zipped around on my bike catching Nick along the way. I got to mile 4ish just in time to snap a blurry picture as Nick zipped by trailing the 3:15 group. (He's the white shirt just to the right of the tree on the left. See him?!)
Mile 11ish. Looking fantastic and wet.
Photo opp at 14.
Here I am freezing at mile 24 where I waited over 2 hours watching digression from gazelle-like male leaders, followed by the gazelle-women, then fit coeds of all body types, and lastly the masses--the limpers, walkers, old and haggard. . . and Nick, who's knees gave up the ghost about halfway through so he ranwalkedskippedlimped the remaining 13 miles. You'll have to ask him why, I'm completely baffled.
I just missed him at the finish, but caught the funny sign accompanied by a blarring aria. hehe
He did it!!!!
And to celebrate, let's drive a 24 foot Uhaul in the rain back to Boise. What a weekend.
